Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). Hi, my name is Barney, but my foster mom has many nicknames for me, like barnacles, bubba, buddy, and bambi. I am a Shepherd mix born approx 2/24/25. I am such a good puppy. My foster mom says I'm one of her favorite fosters yet because I am so sweet and such a smart puppy! I am crate-trained and sleep through the night, both at home and when my foster mom is at work. I am very treat-motivated so I can't wait to crate up because I know I get my kong or treat. Sometimes I sleep on the couch with her at night or in my dog bed close by. I know that I have to wait patiently for my food to be set down for me, then I go straight to the back door to be let out and go potty and play with my foster brother or just play with my toys and sticks! I haven't had any accidents in the house since I was 7 weeks old. I am great on a leash and love walks. I don't pull at all! I wait and will give you my paws to harness up. At street crossings, I wait for oncoming cars. I'm just curious about everything out there in the world. I have met a few other dogs and I loved playing with them! I only saw a cat from afar and was interested, but I think I would be good in a home with them too. I know I should stay out of the kitchen when my foster mom is cooking, and stay out of her room because I love her socks! I love car rides and cannot wait to find my forever family to give me a ride to my new home so I can give them all my love! Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $595

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
