Description
Dog Breed: Doberman Pinscher (short coat). Adoption Fee: $500. Meet Luger! Tall, lean, and downright handsome, Luger is a 2-year-old Doberman with a big heart and an even bigger capacity for love. This affectionate, athletic boy has truly come into his own in foster care and is showing just how wonderful he can be with structure, patience, and the right environment. Luger is crate-trained and does amazing when it’s introduced properly. He’ll happily go in and out of his crate during the day for naps, and at night he sleeps quietly in his crate as long as it’s near his person, no fuss, no barking, just peaceful rest. He’s also dog-friendly with proper introductions! Luger is currently living with two large male dogs and one large female, and is doing fantastic. He’s not reactive and does well with calm, balanced dogs who don’t try to dominate him. With the right match and slow intros, he can absolutely enjoy a multi-dog home. Luger walks enthusiastically on leash and will benefit from continued leash training to fine-tune his manners, but he is not leash reactive, just excited to explore the world! He’s healthy, neutered, house-trained, and loves spending time with his people. Because of his size and energy, Luger would do best in an adult home or one with older teens who understand big, playful dogs (10+). This sweet boy has worked hard to show his true personality, which is gentle, loyal, and eager to please. Luger is ready to meet his forever family, who will keep building on the great progress he’s made. This fabulous foster is a Doberman Rescue Minnesota foster dog. Please read all adoption steps and policies carefully on our website. dobermanrescueminnesota/adoption-steps/ Qualified adopters are within the approved adoption area, and Adopter will be requested to visit this foster dog at the foster family home. Our foster families are generally located within a 250 mile radius of Minneapolis, MN. Overview:
The Doberman Pinscher is a sleek and powerful breed originating from Germany in the late 19th century, specifically developed by Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann for protection. Known for their striking, athletic build, Dobermans typically possess a short, glossy coat that comes in black, red, blue, or fawn, often with rust-colored markings. Their temperament is a fascinating blend of loyalty, intelligence, and alertness, making them exceptional guardians and devoted companions. While highly trainable and eager to please, they require early socialization and consistent training to channel their energy and protectiveness appropriately. Dobermans can thrive in active families who can provide ample exercise and mental stimulation, but their need for space and activity generally makes them less suitable for small apartment living unless exceptionally well-exercised. Regarding health, they are predisposed to certain conditions like Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM), Von Willebrand's Disease, and Wobbler Syndrome, so responsible breeding and veterinary care are paramount.
