Approx. 13 weeks old | Australian Cattle Dog mix | Birthday: April 13, 2025 Bex is a cheerful, playful pup who’s always ready for a game of chase or tug with his siblings and the adult dog in his foster home (who just happens to be a fellow cattle dog mix!). He’s full of energy, but also loves pausing for a snuggle or two—he has the perfect balance of playful and affectionate. Bex is doing wonderfully with crate training and sleeps soundly through the night unless he needs a bathroom break, in which case he’ll let you know. His daytime routine includes structured crate time, playtime with his foster pack, independent enrichment activities like bones and lickimats, and some one-on-one training time with his humans. Like any young pup, Bex needs frequent outdoor potty breaks and lots of interaction throughout the day. He would thrive in a home with a flexible schedule or someone who can arrange for daytime visits to ensure he gets plenty of love and engagement. Bex is still being socialized, but has already done well meeting new adult dogs, children, and people—and he’s off to a good start with cat introductions, too. Rescued at just 8 weeks old from a tough situation, Bex is now living his best life, soaking up love, treats, and toys—and he’s ready to find a forever home where he can keep thriving. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
