Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: $685. To apply to adopt this dog now, complete our adoption application HERE To see our upcoming events where you can meet some of our dogs, please see HERE Age: 5 months (as of 7/13/25) Weight: 24.2 lbs (as of 7/7/25) Location: RI This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Meet Tipper, a sweet and tender-hearted puppy. Her gentle demeanor is complemented by a playful spirit and eagerness to please. We don’t yet know how she is with little kids, but she is affectionate and appeasing with quiet adults, living comfortable around several large breed social dogs and is coexisting well with a cool cat. Transport to New England in mid July was very emotionally tough on sweet Tipper (each individual responds differently) and she is still decompressing, but based upon what her southern caretaker reported and the changes we are seeing each day in RI, we expect her curiosity, playfulness and confidence to continue to show as she settles into her new home. Based upon this experience, we believe Tipper is a sensitive soul, and would do best in a calm, patient and predictable environment where she can feel secure and safe and not pushed to do anything too soon or too fast. She is still learning leash skills and big world confidence (including comfort in the car), so a fenced yard and a quiet neighborhood are critical for this sweet girl at this time, as is another resident social adult dog. Tipper's adopter should be prepared to go slow with her and take things at her pace, checking in with professional behavior support as relevant since every experience a puppy has matters. Adopting Tipper would mean giving her the chance to blossom into the confident and joyful dog she's meant to be, while enriching your life with her gentle, amiable presence. An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: Adoption Application - SOS Animal Rescue League in Rhode Island (sosarl) **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
