Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: $685. To apply to adopt this dog now, complete our adoption application HERE To see our upcoming events where you can meet some of our dogs, please see HERE Age: 5 months (as of 7/13/25) Weight: 20.4 lbs (as of 7/7/25) Location: RI This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Meet Topper and Tipper, two charming sisters known for their sweet, friendly, and goofy nature. Their gentle demeanor is complemented by a playful spirit and sharp intelligence. Their love for toys is unparalleled, often engaging in friendly tussles to claim their favorites. They are quick learners, mastering new tricks with ease. Their love and loyalty know no bounds. They are friendly with everyone they meet including their foster family’s 14-year-old child, but we don’t yet know how they are with little kids. They love other dogs and are interested in cats in a friendly and playful way. Being just puppies, they will have so much to learn! They'll need house training, crate training and will need to learn to walk on a leash. We strongly recommend that all our dogs attend obedience classes because you get to learn commands together, and it offers an opportunity for confidence building and socialization for the dog. These adorable sisters are each looking for a loving home where they can spread joy and happiness. Adopting Tipper or Topper means gaining loyal companions who will fill your life with laughter and love. An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: Adoption Application - SOS Animal Rescue League in Rhode Island (sosarl) **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
