Description
Dog Breed: Hound. Currently located at our Evansville, IN location Andouille is a playful girl born in April 2025. Due to their resemblance as plump little sausages when they were tiny puppies, the litter was given sausge themed names. With seven pups in the litter, they had to be pretty creative. Based on her current size, we would expect her to be medium to large as an adult. Andouille has been living it up in a foster home with a littermate and the foster's other dogs. She loves a good wrestling session with the other pups. She has recently been brave enough to dip her toes in a baby pool in the backyard. She has joined the Amateur Squirrel Watching Society and hopes to one day apply for professional membership. Andouille would love to contiue these activies and more in a new home. Apply to adopt at ITVrescue. All of our dogs are examined by a veterinarian, given age-appropriate vaccinations, dewormed, microchipped and spayed or neutered.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
