With a bright mind, a playful spirit, and a sweet temperament, Jackson is already showing the best traits of this intelligent, loyal breed. About Jackson: Jackson is crate trained and sleeps like a champ—snuggled up in his crate from 9:30 PM to 6:30 AM. He's working hard on house training and making great progress every day. He plays hard, naps harder, and then comes back for round two with those adorable puppy zoomies. He's been thriving in his foster home, where he's lived with four kids (ages 4 to 11) and three other dogs—including two fellow Cattle Dogs and a sassy little Chihuahua. Jackson gets along great with the big dogs, keeping up with their energy and play style. He’s still learning how to be a little more respectful with his tiny foster sibling (sometimes his puppy enthusiasm gets the best of him!). Jackson is up to date on all vaccines and has been microchipped—he’s ready to start his forever adventure with you! A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
