Description
Dog Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). Meet Spruce â A Resilient Girl Ready to Bloom Spruce arrived at the shelter on July 3rd after a kind citizen found her wandering into their yard. When she came in, she was underweight, her nails were painfully overgrown, and she was missing patches of fur. Despite everything sheâd been through, Spruce greeted everyone with a gentle spirit and a wagging tail. Our vet team immediately started treatment for her skin and ear issues, and sheâs been improving day by day with proper care and love. Sheâs shown that her heart is just as strong as her will to heal. Spruce is a smart and friendly girl who already knows several commandsâsit, shake, lay down, and even roll over! She walks nicely on leash, only pulling a bit when sheâs excited to explore. Out on walks, sheâs food-motivated, enjoys meeting new people, and loves belly rubs. In playgroups, Spruce has been polite with other dogsâshe tends to do her own thing, following handlers around and soaking up attentionâbut sheâs started to show more of a playful side as she gains confidence. Spruce would thrive in a calm, loving home or foster environment where she can continue healing, both inside and out. Sheâs an affectionate, energetic companion whoâs ready to trade her kennel for cozy naps, gentle care, and a family to love her for the beautiful soul she is. If youâre ready to help Spruce blossom into her best self, sheâs waiting for you.

Overview:
The American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) is a robust and intelligent breed, originating in the United States from crossbreeding Old English Terriers and Old English Bulldogs for dog-fighting purposes. Physically, they are medium-sized, known for their muscular build, broad heads, and powerful jaws, typically weighing between 30-60 pounds. Their coats are short and come in a wide array of colors. Temperamentally, a well-socialized APBT is often described as loyal, affectionate, and people-oriented, displaying a playful and sometimes clownish demeanor. They can be excellent family companions, provided they receive consistent training and early socialization, though their high energy levels mean they thrive with active owners. While they can adapt to apartment living with sufficient exercise, a house with a secure yard is often preferred. Notable health considerations include a predisposition to hip and elbow dysplasia, allergies, and certain heart conditions.
