Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mastiff. Buddy has the sweetest personality for being such a big boy. He gets along with small dogs and cats and loves kids. He tolerates bath time and getting his nails clipped. He loves water. I've had Buddy going on 3 months now and from the beginning, he's been completely potty trained. He's crate trained as well. His favorite thing to do is give his paw for a quick shake. He enjoys balls and sticks in the yard as well. Buddy needs structure and discipline because of his size. He's been in training for basic obedience and because he's so smart, he's learning well. The adoption fee for all of our dogs is $300.00 and that includes their vaccinations, spay or neuter, rabies and microchip. To start the process please visit our website and fill out the adoption application (.dfwrescueme) and from there the foster family can answer any questions and arrange a time to meet. Buddy is participating in the DFW Rescue Me guest dog program, so ongoing care and custody is provided by his foster, not by DFWRM.

Overview:
The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
