Dog Breed: Cane Corso Mastiff. Meet Luna – Our Water-Loving Rescue Pup! Luna is a stunning 6-month-old Cane Corso puppy who’s looking for a fresh start and a forever home with someone who understands the breed and is ready to guide her with love, structure, and patience. Her previous owner kept her crated most of the time in a small apartment and just didn’t have the time to give her the life she deserves, so we’re working hard to help Luna catch up on the socialization she missed. Despite her rocky start, Luna is incredibly sweet, very cuddly, and absolutely adores kids. She’s a gentle, affectionate girl who just wants to be close to her people. Right now, Luna is a bit possessive of her toys and belongings—understandable, given her background—so she would do best as the only dog in the home at this time. Our team is actively working with her on this, and with the right structure and continued training, we’re hopeful she’ll learn to feel more secure and relaxed around other dogs. She is crate trained and has one major obsession: water! Whether it’s playing in it, splashing around, or soaking in a bath, Luna is in her happy place when water is involved. Luna is ready for a family that can help her blossom and give her the time, patience, and love she’s been missing. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
