Dog Breed: Shepherd / Hound / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 550. Molly is a Shepherd mix puppy born in February 2025, and she’s growing into the perfect companion—currently weighing in at 23 lbs of energy, affection, and charm. She’s great on leash walks, whether she’s strolling solo or with a doggie buddy, and she plays just as hard as she naps (always in her crate like a good girl!). Molly’s house training is coming along wonderfully—she’s had no #2 accidents and only minimal #1 mishaps as she continues to learn. She’s also been socialized with a variety of furry and human friends: an older cat, a tolerant senior dog, a playful younger pup, and people of all ages, including kids. This smart little pup already knows “sit,” “come,” and “paw,” and she’s currently working on “stay,” “lay down,” and “drop it.” She’s teething, so be sure to keep a stash of chew toys and frozen carrots nearby—she’ll thank you! If you’re looking for a bright, affectionate, and well-rounded pup to grow up with, Molly might just be your perfect match. Whoever adopts her is in for something special! A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
