Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (medium coat). DUKE Duke is a leaner and a lover! He loves receiving all the pets you're willing to give and does the cutest happy dance with his back feet when you scratch his butt. He walks nicely on leash, takes treats gently, and is easy going around other dogs. Duke has beautiful, soft brown eyes that are sure to melt your heart when you meet him! Duke currently weighs about 85 lbs and is in the process of trimming off some of the excess weight. Mr Duke is looking for a HOSPICE HOME as he has a few Mass Cel Tumor Lumps and bumps. He's been seen by the vet who said his teeth look nice and healthy and he would best benefit from a nice Hospice Home going forward. If you're interested in meeting Duke, please visit humboldtgov/2658/Animal-Shelter and fill out an application to be pre-approved to make an appointment.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
