Description
Dog Breed: Shih Tzu. Bryan is one of the most sweet and cuddly little boys we have ever had at the rescue. Despite arriving with a painful ulcer in his right eye, Bryan’s innate good nature, friendliness, and brightness are shining. He is well behaved, and his loving ways have endeared him to us all here at the rescue. Bryan loves to be held and snuggled, and will sit endlessly in a cozy lap for affection. He travels well in a car, and he gets along with other dogs. Bryan is an adorable Shih Tzu, about 2-3 years old and 12-13 pounds. His right eye ulcer was slowly healing, however, after 6 weeks of treatment with multiple medications and ophthalmology check ups, the eye developed glaucoma. Since this can be painful, and the eye was not going to regain any vision, we had it removed on 8/22/25. Bryan is healing nicely, and is happy and enjoying being pain free. He is well adjusted and his left eye has excellent vision. Bryan has the youthful energy and spirit expected at his young age, but it is his warmth and sweetness that make him a stand out. He will certainly make a fantastic companion and lap dog. If you believe you are a great match for Bryan, please put in an application today.

Overview:
The Shih Tzu, affectionately known as the "lion dog," boasts an ancient and regal lineage, originating from the Tibetan plateau and further refined in imperial China. These charming canines are easily recognized by their striking appearance: a small, sturdy build, a distinctive undershot jaw, and a long, flowing double coat that often requires regular grooming to prevent matting. Temperamentally, Shih Tzus are renowned for being affectionate, outgoing, and playful companions, making them wonderfully suitable for a variety of households. Their adaptable and generally good-natured disposition means they often thrive in families with children and are particularly well-suited for apartment living due to their modest exercise requirements. While generally robust, potential owners should be aware of common breed-specific health concerns, including respiratory issues (due to their brachycephalic, or "smushed" face), eye conditions, and luxating patella. Despite these considerations, a Shih Tzu typically brings immense joy and companionship to their devoted owners.
