Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Terrier / Mixed. As sweet and beautiful as her namesake flower, Dahlia is a lovely pup who is sure to bring a smile to your face! Dahlia is an 8-month-old mixed breed pup with a shiny white coat and lovely pointy ears! She currently weighs 42 lbs., but likely still has some growing to do. It is likely she will be a large pup (>50 lbs.) when fully grown. Dahlia was rescued by our partner shelter in Texas. When she was first found, she was covered in so much oil her coat looked silver. After her rescue, Dahlia spent some time in foster homes with several other dogs of all sizes, cats, and kids! She is very playful with other dogs, a big cuddle bug with people, and gets along fine with cats. As a medium-energy pup, Dahlia loves a good mix of play time and couch cuddles. She can be a little shy at first but wants to be so brave. Now that Dahlia is ready for her forever home, perhaps you might be the one to help her come out of her shell and truly blossom? Dahlia is crate trained and is working hard on her house and leash training. She can have a high prey drive with birds, squirrels, chickens, etc., which training could help her cope better. With consistency and structure, Dahlia is sure to learn quickly. A supportive and loving family is just what Dahlia needs to become the best pup she can be! Might Dahlia be the most perfect flower you could pick? She thinks she just might be! * When considering adoption, keep in mind that dogs thrive on structure and routine. They adjust much better when their owners are committed to providing consistency and stability. The adoption fee for Dahlia is $500. That includes the cost of spaying/neutering, up to date vaccinations, foster care, rescue and transportation fees. To get the ball rolling, head over to our Adoption Application and submit your application today. A Dog Star representative will contact you within 24 hours. To speed up the process, contact your vet and give them permission to speak with us. If you do not get a response within 24 hours, check your spam folder.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
