Description
Dog Breed: Saint Bernard. Meet Rhett! This 6-year-old, 143-lb neutered Saint Bernard is the definition of a gentle giant—easygoing, affectionate, and ready to melt hearts with just one look. Despite his size, Rhett is calm, polite, and incredibly sweet, making him a favorite among staff and volunteers. Rhett arrived as an unclaimed stray, but it’s clear he’s been well socialized—he loves people, gets along beautifully with other dogs, and brings a peaceful, friendly energy everywhere he goes. He has medium to low energy, is potty trained, walks well on a leash, and stays calm in his kennel. This food-motivated good boy also knows his basic obedience and thrives in a relaxed, loving environment. Whether he’s lounging at your feet, enjoying a stroll, or simply soaking up attention, Rhett is always ready to be your gentle, loyal companion. If you're looking for a giant-hearted, big-pawed best friend who just wants love and a cozy home to call his own, Rhett is your guy. Come meet him and fall for this sweet soul. Rhett was rescued from a shelter in New Mexico. Meet and greets are by appointment only. An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time. When we do, it will be updated here. This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above. Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. Dogs adopted with our rescue come with FREE training from #GoodPup to help you build strong bonds from the start! If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free pet insurance. We are not affiliated with MetLife pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect). Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico. While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances. More questions? Read our FAQs here: 4p4l/faqs/ Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed. A new study has concluded that (in layman's terms), breed assumption is NOT indicative of behavior in mixed breed dogs. Therefore, if a dog looks presumably to be a German Shepherd breed, one cannot assume the dog will have a high prey drive. From the study: "Although many physical traits were associated with breeds, behavior was much more variable among individual dogs. In general, physical trait heritability was a greater predictor of breed but was not necessarily a predictor of breed ancestry in mutts. Among behavioral traits, biddability—how well dogs respond to human direction—was the most heritable by breed but varied significantly among individual dogs. Thus, dog breed is generally a poor predictor of individual behavior and should not be used to inform decisions relating to selection of a pet dog" - .science/doi/10.1126/science.abk0639
