Description
Dog Breed: Poodle (unknown type) / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: $350.00. Meet Bigby! This handsome boy is a one year old, medium sized, tri-color poodle mix. Possibly a mini berner-doodle. He currently weighs 35lbs and should be full grown at this size, though he might fill out a bit more. When Bigby came to the shelter his fur was in terrible shape so he had to be shaved down. His coat is growing back beautifully, though! Bigby is super sweet, very cuddly, bouncy, fun boy. He is also potty trained and crate trained. He is working on walking nicely on leash (he gets very excited to be out on a walk and tends to pull at first), patience (holding a command), and manners (not jumping on people). Bigby would do really well in home with or without other dogs, he is very dog friendly and loves to run and play. He recently spent a week with a tiny, 4lb yorkie and was just fine with her. He has not been cat tested, but we don’t think he would hurt a cat, just chase them if they ran. Bigby is good with all kinds of people. Since he is working on not jumping up on people to get attention, maybe not little little kids whose parents would be worried their child would be overwhelmed or knocked over. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
