Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed (short coat). PUPPY! TOAD - 6 months - 1 yr old, 48 pounds, PUPPY Toad arrived at VBACAC as a stray and with another puppy in tow. He has brown and white fur and a glowing smile. He is nervous meeting new people but will warm up. He is easily startled as well. Toad is interested in treats but didn't sit for them. It might take some time for Toad to fully settle in a new home with a new family and new routine. Toad was very interested in other dogs outside the yard, especially the ones he saw all playing together in our shelter playgroup. We have not yet tested them with other dogs but when we do, we will update the bio here. Are you patient? Are you understanding? Are you willing to devote time, energy and your attention to a puppy? Toad will need some daily training, exercise and playtime. Although timid, he is eager to please you. Toad is currently in a back kennel so if you come in to meet him and don't see him, please just ask!

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
