Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler (short coat). Adoption Fee: 620. Incoming Heartthrob Alert: Meet Dwight the Blue Heeler Pup! Dwight may be tiny, but he’s already got big opinions — and even bigger potential. This 8-week-old cattle dog cutie is smart, spunky, and full of future sidekick energy. Whether you’re hiking a trail or reorganizing the sock drawer, Dwight will be right there making sure it’s done correctly (he’s a detail guy). Dwight is making his debut at our vet in Riverview, and we’re on the lookout for the perfect pre-adoptive home or a loving foster to help him start off strong. Pre-adopters get first priority! Here’s the scoop: He’ll need to return to our vet (Riverview, Sarasota, or St. Pete) at least two more times for puppy boosters, with a third visit for neuter — so we recommend living within 1.5 to 2 hours of one of those locations. Dwight is all wiggles, wits, and working-dog charm — don’t miss your chance to raise this pint-sized professional from the ground up.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
