Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed (short coat). We first saw a picture of Artie fighting for his life after being shot and left for dead. He was fighting to survive and we had to do whatever it took to save the sweet eyes we saw in that picture. And that's what we did....fast forward to present day. Artie is safe, 100% healthy, gained 10lbs and a happy boy! Naturally he is still timid when meeting new people so needs a little time and patience. He wants to trust and will warm up with encouragement, then his true goofy personality shines and he becomes your loyal shadow. We are guessing he's around a year old, 40lbs and not sure on mix. He has some puppy energy but once exerted through play, will just chill with you on the couch. He is learning how fun toys & bones are and loves playing in the backyard. He can entertain himself but would love a home with another playful dog. He doesn't mind his crate at all, in fact it's his safe place to go and chill. He's also learning how to walk on a leash. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
