Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (short coat). Curly-tailed Roo is the cutest boy around! Roo is about 2-3 months old and is part of our Outback Litter of Australian Cattle Dog mixes. He is the smaller of the two males, but has all the zest that you expect from a heeler. He is a sweet and smart boy who is looking for an active family who can keep up with his busy mind and body. Roo currently weighs about 9lbs, and we estimate he will be around 45lbs when fully grown. Roo came to us as part of a litter of puppies that were surrendered by their owners. The owners had two intact dogs, but didn't plan on having a litter of puppies. Mom is getting spayed, so no more puppies for her! The puppies have all been doing great in foster care and are looking for individual homes so they can get the one-on-one training they need. Roo is the sensitive sweetheart of the group. He can be a little shy in new situations, but thrives on love and tasty treats. He loves to play and explore, and can often be found wandering around the backyard looking for something to get into. He also has learned how to play fetch. He would love a family who can take him on lots of adventures and help him gain some more confidence. Roo is still learning all of his basic manners, so his new family will need to be dedicated to continuing his training and socialization to help him be the best boy he can be. Roo has done well with other dogs and could be a great active sibling for a pup who needs a wrestling buddy. Roo has been in a foster home with a cat and could do well in a forever home with dog-savvy cats. Roo could be a great addition to a family with kids 10 years and older. Roo is still working on his housetraining, but has been doing great about holding it through the night and pottying outside with frequent trips out. His new family will need to be patient with him while he is learning and expect to work with him to help him succeed. Roo has been doing well being left in a pen with his brother while his foster family is away for short periods during the day and overnight. He has never been truly alone, so he will need a family who can slowly acclimate him to being home alone. Roo is such a darling boy, and he can't wait to start his life with his forever family! If you think that might be you, submit an adoption application today! Roo's adoption fee is $350. Apply to adopt here! form.jotform/52017002013129/ Applications are also available on the website (.yolospca) It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption. Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
