CHERRY - CHIHUAHUA / MIXED DOG FOR ADOPTION

Dog Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed. This lil guy has recently entered into the witness puptection program, and while his government name is Cherry, we have been calling him Gerry (Gerald if he gets in trouble). Gerry has had a rough go of things, and in his past life he was involved in some sketchy business that ended with him doing some hard time at the shelter. He showed up to do his time with a steering wheel cover fashioned into some kind of torture device intended to look like a harness. It was embedded into his skin and left significant wounds that have been healing up since he entered into witness puptection. He had also been infested with fleas, and his skin and fur are recovering from that as well. The sketchy business he got caught up in resulted in him biting someone, and the long arm of the law locked him up for 10 days to make sure he wasn’t a rabid psychopath and then…. His humans didn’t come to bust him out. He passed the not-a-psychopath test with flying colors and we deemed him a candidate for witness puptection and are giving him a new lease on life! Gerry is also a little underweight, at ~10lbs and is an estimated 5 years old. He appears to be some kind of chihuahua mix and has legs for days. He is microchipped, fully vaccinated, and neutered. His foster mom believes that his bite was likely out of supreme misery and pain as she has not seen him be bitey to humans, dogs, cats, or fowl. In fact, he hasn’t had much of a care towards any of these things and is overall a happy go lucky guy. Gerry just wants to be a part of whatever the humans are doing, or napping on doggy beds stacked 3 high (but one would probably suffice). A lap would also be a great place to be. In the event that he gets overwhelmed or it’s designated quiet time, Gerry gladly cozies into his crate - it provides him with safety and security. His recall is top notch, his basic commands are solid (sit, wait for food, off), and his silly streak is strong. Men make him a little nervous, but he’s warming up to them with positive interactions and lots of snackos. His foster family doesn’t have any kids around, but they believe he would be fine around kids that have basic dog manners down. He would be fine in a home with other dogs, or as a solo pup. He’s just glad to have a chance to start over. He’s looking forward to finding his furever fam.
