We review each application and do our absolute best in choosing a home that best suits each dog and his/her needs and personality. Howdy folks! Let me introduce myself. My name is Auggie and I'm told I'm one tough lil' Texan. You see I have a crooked left front leg. My foot is frozen inward at the ankle joint. It probably happened when I was born...but I don't remember. It's not very pretty, but it doesn't slow me down one bit. I can run in the yard and chase squirrels with the best of them. I'm doing really well in my foster home and get along with all the other dogs. I'm cautious in new surroundings, but with a gentle coaxing and soft words, I settle in quickly. I'm kind of a lady's man and prefer them over men. My favorite thing to do is sit on the swing with my foster mom. I love to cuddle with her while she sings to me. AHHHH that's just the best! I have very good house manners and will do anything for a treat. Ideally, I would love to be adopted with my good friend Cricket, but I would do just fine on my own as well. If you need the perfect snuggle buddy, look no further than into my gorgeous brown eyes, because I'm your man!

In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics.
