Description
Dog Breed: Cane Corso Mastiff (medium coat). Meet Kane! The big boy with a soft, endearing personality. This XL Cane Corso mix came into the Shelter and easily befriended staff and volunteers. He does have a history of spending the majority of time outdoors in his previous home but has certainly enjoyed indoor living since his arrival at the Shelter. A home where Kane could have access to the outdoors regularly with his guardian through hiking and play while also being able to come indoors and be with his people would be best in his next spot. At the Shelter, we have observed that Kane walks on leash but does pull. Adopters should plan on working with Kane through positive reinforcement based training to work on life skills and manners to make living with an XL breed dog a little easier. Kane has attended playgroup with other dogs and enjoyed playbowing and romping around. Another dog friend in the home may be right up his alley. Any resident dogs should meet prior to adoption. If you are looking for a gentle giant to be your BFF, consider meeting Kane today! Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
