Description
Dog Breed: Belgian Shepherd Malinois (medium coat). Meet Juneau, the Malinois mix puppy! This puppy may be medium sized now but we anticipate she will grow up to be an XL sized dog. She appears to may be mixed with a larger breed like an Akita? Thatâs just our guess. Since being at the Shelter, she has been playful, outgoing and confident. She is still perfecting life skills and manners such as potty training and leash walking. Adopters should plan on bonding through positive reinforcement based training to help her learn new skills and ways to succeed as she grows bigger. Juneau has met other dogs at the Shelter and has enjoyed playing. A home with another dog may be a fit after some speed dating at the Shelter. Adopters should do some breed research on Malinois to ensure they know what they are getting into prior to coming in and falling in love with Juneau! Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
