Description
Dog Breed: Great Dane. LOCATION: Mooresville, NC DOB: 06/07/2021 Meet Broley – a handsome white Great Dane with a big personality and a soft spot for walks, snacks, and the couch. He’s goofy, sensitive, and still figuring out the world around him. Once you’ve earned his trust, though, he’s full of love and affection—just don’t expect it overnight. Broley is all about movement. He loves hitting the trails and has a blast on walks, especially when he gets to sniff everything in sight. He prefers nature paths to sidewalks, and when he gets excited about the leash or harness, getting him buckled in can feel like a two-person job. A backup slip lead helps, and once he’s going, he’s great on leash. He’s got a moderate energy level—happy to run and explore, but just as happy to stretch out in the AC afterward. He’s still learning how to play with toys, but he figured out bones fast and is starting to get the hang of it. His idea of a perfect day? A good walk, a comfy couch, a snack or two, and your hand on his head. Broley is housetrained with a quirk: he prefers not to go #2 in the backyard. As long as he gets at least one walk a day to do his business, he does great indoors. He’s crate trained, car trained, and muzzle trained, and he’s incredibly food motivated (though he can be picky about treats). He also has no known fears, but he really doesn’t like being outside alone. Now for the part that makes him a special placement—Broley doesn’t trust strangers. At all. New people in the home need to ignore him completely. No eye contact, no talking to him, and definitely no reaching for him until he decides he’s ready. His foster roommate spent three weeks ignoring him before he felt safe enough to approach, and now they’re buddies—so the potential is there, it just takes patience. If pushed too soon, Broley will growl or react. He’s not ready for kids or a busy home with lots of visitors. Broley would do best as the only dog in the home. He’s walked near other dogs with no problem, but hasn’t done well in closer intros yet. He’s also a no for cats—he’s chased the resident feline and seems too fixated to be safe around them. He’s active for his age and needs a home with space to stretch out. Ideally, he’ll have a fenced yard, someone to hang outside with him, and a one-story home or limited need to navigate stairs (he’s clumsy and hesitant on them). Broley is a bit of a project—but if you have the time, patience, and space to let him open up on his timeline, he’ll repay you with devotion, goofiness, and maybe one day… he’ll even learn to play fetch. ========================= To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! form.jotform/51994996709176 . Overview:
The Great Dane is an impressive and regal breed, often dubbed the "Apollo of Dogs" for its dignified stature and noble appearance. Originating in Germany, where it was historically bred for hunting boar, this giant breed is renowned for its immense size and striking presence. Physically, Great Danes are characterized by their tall, muscular build, short coat (available in various colors like fawn, brindle, black, blue, and harlequin), and expressive eyes. Despite their formidable size, they possess a surprisingly gentle and affectionate temperament, making them wonderful family companions. They are known for being patient with children and generally get along well with other pets. While their size might suggest otherwise, Great Danes can adapt to apartment living if provided with sufficient daily exercise, as they are not overly energetic indoors. However, prospective owners should be aware of certain health considerations, including a predisposition to bloat (gastric dilatation-volvulus), hip dysplasia, and certain heart conditions, necessitating careful breeding and regular veterinary check-ups. Overall, a Great Dane offers a loving and loyal addition to the right home.
