Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Belgian Shepherd Malinois / Mixed. ‘WEST SIDE STORY’ THEMED PUPPY: Approx. 2-3 months old / Approx. 17 lbs. & growing Hi, I’m Maria! I came from animal control with my sibling after living in a home with way too many dogs, and I didn’t get much attention and was pretty under-socialized when I arrived. So, I’m catching up on that now with all the nice volunteers at Mostly Mutts. I’m learning what it means to feel safe and loved, and I’m so excited for this fresh start! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I love my sibling and the other dogs I met at Mostly Mutts, and I believe I would benefit from and enjoy another dog to play with and learn from in my new home. So, if you have a nice doggie that would like a puppy friend, let’s meet! / I haven’t met kitties yet. / I met kids around 10 years old at Mostly Mutts and was very shy with them, though I didn’t show any aggression, so if you have calm kids around that age, let’s meet and no toddlers that will likely scare me. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I’m a young, shy, and very cute pup who’s still learning that the world isn’t such a scary place, and I’m coming along nicely. I’m looking for a quiet, gentle family where I can continue to blossom at my pace. The kind volunteers here hand-feed me my meals to help me build trust with humans, and it’s really starting to work — I’m feeling braver every day! Each new day is a win for me, as I’m starting to learn to walk on the leash (though still a flight risk, so make sure I’m secure) and I even did well for my bath at the paw spa! I was a little nervous at first, but I let them pick me up and then drank from the sprayer. I sat calmly through my bath and nail trim. Give me some extra time and patience and you’ll see just how sweet and special I truly am! / Energy level: My current energy level is 3-5, but I know it will increase as I get more comfortable in my new home. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I’m a student in the Mostly Mutts University training program and look forward to learning a lot with my trainer! Check back soon to see what I've learned. I’m looking for a family that will teach me everything I need to know to grow up and become a wonderful adult dog so get ready for some training with your new best friend. / I’m doing well in my crate at Mostly Mutts. / I’m at the very beginning of my potty training so I’ve been having accidents on the shelter schedule, and I’ll need my family to potty train me. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I love kisses, getting petted, and belly rubs from the nice volunteers. I also love spending time with my sibling and would benefit from another friendly dog in my new home. I’m sure we’ll discover lots of other things we’ll love doing together as I settle in my new home. / I wouldn’t like being rushed into new situations or around new people too quickly — I need time to feel safe — and I wouldn’t be happy without plenty of love, attention, exercise and training to help me thrive. • MEDICAL: I've started my puppy shots, but you will have to finish these for me as I grow. I’m also micro-chipped and spayed. If you’re ready for the training commitment, and fun of raising a puppy, then let’s meet! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
