Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed (short coat). Meatloaf Pembroke, MA Check out this hot patootie! Meatloaf is a super friendly and handsome herdy mix; a 10/10 goodboy who would do anything for love ♥️ Overall medium energy for his mix (best guess is ACD/Aussie likely with some other breeds thrown in), Meatloaf is happiest by your side with a toy in his mouth. He loves self-entertaining with squeaky toys, but is also down for a round of tug and enjoys fetch. He's done super well coexisting around new people and dogs, and in new environments - he's just happy to be included. He'll make an excellent active companion and has the makings of a great go-anywhere dog for the right owner! Meatloaf had a rough start as an outdoor kennel dog, but he flew out of Kentucky like a bat out of hell with his buoyant spirit and zest for life intact. He's adapting to pet dog life with ease, doing well in the house and excellent in his crate. He needs some shoring up with leash skills and manners, but has an agreeable personality and wants to please. Older kids may be best for him since he can get a little jumpy when excited - at around a year old he is fully grown but still has a lot of goofy puppy energy. With a little more training for the basics he'll be a socially responsible rockstar! Meatloaf is very dog-social, he can coexist fairly well if leashed but if left to his own devices will try to play in a friendly-but-rude way. He plays well with appropriately matched dogs, needing a little guidance here and there, and is learning to slow down a bit and read the room when another dog isn't interested in playing. He has not been cat-tested yet but shows pretty strong herding tendencies in play with dogs; with that in mind, prospective adopters with cats will need to be prepared to set appropriate boundaries and integrate slowly. Meatloaf is housebroken, crate trained, and rides well in a car crate (safety first!). He is an approximately 45lb, one year old neutered male. He is microchipped and up to date on vaccinations and monthly preventatives. Meatloaf is being fostered in Pembroke MA and needs to meet his potential family prior to adoption to ensure a great match. Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
