Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Maisie is an 1-year-old female Terrier mix who has already been spayed. She came to PAHS as a stray and her owner never came looking for her. Maisie has a wiry looking, medium length coat that is very light tan and she has quite a bit of white markings. Maisie weighs only 12 pounds so she is a small dog. She is shy but warms up quickly to anyone who shows her kindness. Maisie would be fine with children. Since we are still getting to know Maisie, we are unsure how she would do with other dogs. We would require a meet and greet with your dog if you have another dog. Dog/puppy adoption fees are $120. Cat/kitten adoption fees are $75. All pets will be spayed/neutered before adoption; or you will be given a discount spay/neuter certificate to be used at participating vet clinics to help with the cost of spay/neuter. Our adoption fees cover a microchip, microchip registration, deworming, vaccinations (as age and law requires), and a courtesy vet exam at participating offices. Unless otherwise indicated under "special needs" our dogs have screened heart worm negative.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
