Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (short coat). Location: DE Sam is a small male cattle dog mix. He weighs around 35 lbs. and is about 2 1/2 years old (born 6/39/23). He is social with people and dogs and is crated when unsupervised. He has excellent recall and walks good on leash and is affectionate. His confidence has grown in foster care. He is medium energy and does initiate play with our dogs. Sam has a happy-go-lucky personality. He is crate trained and never barks in crate. He would thrive in a home with an active family and fenced yard. He has good manners and is a sweet boy and enjoys playing with toys and balls and loves tether toys. He is current on all vaccinations, flea and tick and heartworm preventatives and is neutered and microchipped. He loves spending time in the yard in nice weather. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
