Description
Dog Breed: American Bulldog (medium coat). Sutton is a lively 1.5-year-old American Bulldog with a big heart and even bigger energy! Sheâs a bit shy at first but quickly warms up to people, especially once she knows sheâs in a safe and loving space. She will need an experienced owner who is comfortable taking it slow, and help her build her confidence. Sutton would do best in a quieter home so she can build trust in a calm environment. Once comfortableSutton has a high play drive and lots of enthusiasm, so sheâ ll thrive in an active home that can keep up with her energy. Sheâs still learning how to play nicely with other dogs and could use some gentle guidance and socialization to build her confidence. She absolutely loves being petted and is a total fan of belly rubs. Sheâs a sweet girl who just wants to feel safe and loved. Sutton can be slightly anxious when left alone for long periods and would benefit from some training for separation anxiety, and a home without shared walls. If you're ready to help Sutton grow into her confident, playful self, sheâ ll reward you with endless affection and loyalty. Please call the North Shelter at 416-338-8723 to set up a meet and greet session with her. We open daily from 10:30 am to 6:30 pm.

Breed overview

American Bulldog
Overview:
Originally used in the 17th century for bull baiting—a wagering sport in which dogs fought bulls in a ring—Bulldogs had taller, more athletic frames (much like the Olde English Bulldogge). When bull baiting was outlawed in 1835, Bulldogs were bred to be kinder, heavier and more relaxed. However, American Bulldogs—which were brought to the U.S. before this breeding pattern—retained the size and strength of the original Bulldogs. Great family dogs, American Bulldogs are sweet to children. They love family-oriented occasions and want to be involved. With proper training and socialization, you’ll find them outgoing and exceedingly loyal. Some American Bulldogs will go to great lengths to protect their masters. Tough and determined, American Bulldogs have an impressive stamina and strength. They are always game for playtime in the back yard or working in the field.
