Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed. Fern is a 2.5 year old Australian Shepherd, Lab, Hound mix. She is very sweet and smart but she does not get along with other dogs. She is possessive of food and toys/has gone after other dogs over those things. Her herding instinct is strong and she will try to herd/stop people. We worry that she is bored in our home because we are not able to walk her or make sure she is active. She can be anxious and sometimes wont go outside without us being with her. A family tried to adopt her recently but she snipped at their dog. They worked at a horse farm and said she did great with the farm animals and their cat. They were able to have her off leash as well. We feel that she would be best suited for being a solo dog. She loves being with her people and swimming. She is crated trained and knows basic commands. We have tried working with her but we do not have the capacity to give her what she needs and deserves because we have 2 kids under 2. **** Breed: Lab, hound, Australian shepherd mix **** Pet Link: .nokillnetwork/adoption/pet_detail.php?petid=2185871&flag=1

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
