Dog Breed: Pomeranian / Chihuahua / Mixed (long coat). Adoption Fee: 550. Rusty is a sweet, energetic Pomeranian mix with a personality that lights up every room. He’s extremely affectionate — the kind of dog who doesn’t just sit in your lap, but gently lays his head on your shoulder or nuzzles into your neck for a genuine hug. Yes, Rusty gives real hugs! He’s playful, eager to please, and loves just about everything: treats, fetch, long walks, other dogs, and especially you. He walks well on a leash and sleeps quietly in his crate through the night. Rusty is also the type to leap right into your arms if you ask him to — truly a heart-melter. Rusty does have a protective streak when it comes to his backyard — he may bark at people or noises on the other side of the fence. It's just his way of keeping an eye on things. He’s also been known to mark in a new environment, but it’s temporary and manageable with belly bands and routine — he just needs a little time to adjust. Rusty would thrive in a somewhat active home with a family who can give him the attention, love, and structure he deserves. If you’re looking for a dog who will make you laugh, keep you company, and love you deeply — Rusty is ready! Rusty is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 8/9 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 9AM and 11AM. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame. This pet is currently undergoing treatment for heartworm disease. Activity must be restricted for several weeks during recovery. RSR will cover the full cost of treatment. RSR will provide heartworm preventatives until the retest is due. The adopter will be responsible for scheduling the retest and obtaining any follow-up prescriptions through their veterinarian.
