Dog Breed: Black Labrador Retriever / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 450. Meet Ingalls… or rather “Jake,” because apparently, “Ingalls” was too fancy for him to acknowledge. Jake has decided my house is now his house, complete with full free-range privileges even when I’m gone. The crate? Oh, he’ll whine if you shut the door—but leave it open and suddenly it’s his VIP lounge, especially when my mini Aussie starts giving him the side-eye. Walking him on a leash is less “stroll” and more “upper body workout,” but in the backyard, he transforms into a gentleman athlete. He’s obsessed with balls, plays with his stuffed bear with lots of gusto (look at this precious video ) and performs an Olympic-worthy vertical leap while you’re dishing up his food—just in case you forgot how starving he is. He leans on you like a 50-pound paperweight when you pet him, reminding you he’s both clingy and charming. Honestly, for a dog who ignores his own name, he’s managed to win over everyone anyway.
