Description
Dog Breed: Schnauzer (medium coat). Meet Smokey At just 11 pounds and 4 months old, Smokey is a sweet, timid schnauzer puppy with a gentle soul and a heart full of potential. His life began in a puppy mill, where he knew only fear, neglect, and confinement. But those days are behind him now—and every day in his foster home, Smokey is discovering that love and kindness really do exist. Smokey is still learning the world around him. Sudden noises and fast movements can startle him—understandable for a pup who’s never experienced a real home or daily life outside a cage. Kennels, in particular, are scary reminders of his past, so his foster is gently helping him see them as safe spaces, not places of punishment. Smokey needs a patient, understanding home where he can continue to heal. A doggy companion is a must—he lights up around other pups and finds comfort in their presence. No small children, please, as he needs a calm environment to continue building trust at his own pace. He’s just beginning to explore toys and is learning from the other animals how to play and have fun. Potty training is still a work in progress—after living in unclean conditions, he’s learning what it means to live in a safe, loving home. With time and care, Smokey is making beautiful progress. He may be timid now, but with the right home, Smokey will blossom into the loyal, loving companion he was always meant to be. He’s not just looking for a home—he’s searching for healing, hope, and someone to show him what it means to be cherished.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
