Name: Beba Best Guess for Breed: Terrier mix, some fox terrier in there Best Guess for Age: 1.5 years as of July 2025 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 10 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: Puerto Rico shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area! Special adoption considerations: Dogs from Puerto Rico have a major transition to go through when they arrive and will need humans who are committed to helping them acclimate to a completely new environment. Giving Beba opportunities to interact with other dogs here (doggie playdates, welcoming resident dog in the home, doggie daycare, etc.) will help her so much - they will show her the ropes! Beba is Looking For: This sweetie was found on a street in Puerto Rico. She's eager for her new chapter, the one where she loves and is loved, the one where she has her own humans for sniffy walks and all the adventures that cherished family pups have. She's a young girl and is ready for the rest of her life! Will that be with you? What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once she has spent time in foster care in the DC area. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
