Description

Dog Breed: Beagle (short coat). JAKE - no children and needs to go to a home in a close radius to Tucson Jake is a friendly 4-year-old (not sure of age) beagle who gets along well with other dogs. However, he has also been STARVED. If you don't know the meaning and impact of that word -- Google is your friend. Jake came to the rescue, looking like a skeleton. To say he is extremely keyed in on food would be an understatement. He is always looking for food and won't hesitate nipping at your hands if they smell of food. So NO, I mean, ABSOLUTELY NO CHILDREN -- EVER. Jake is fed and given treats in his crate. I highly recommend having a crate for him or his own room for feeding and treating if you have other animals. A certified animal behaviorist may help Jake but I doubt he will ever lose that need to seek out food. Jake also is not leash trained, so a basic obedience class would do wonders for him and you. Jake needs to go to a home in a close radius to Tucson If you are looking for a dog with no issues, might I suggest a stuffed animal. If you are into challenges, Jake and I double dog dare you to turn him into that cuddle of fluff he has the potential of becoming in the correct hands -- otherwise, let's not waste anyone's time. Jake's adoption fee is $300.00 This dog's adoption fee is a minimum $300.00 donation to help us save more dogs. Southern Arizona Beagle Rescue, SoAZBR is an all-volunteer group. One hundred percent of your donation is used for the care and treatment needy beagles. Your donation is 100% tax deductible, too.

Overview:

The Beagle is a beloved scent hound with a rich history, originally bred in England for hunting hare and rabbit. Their most recognizable physical traits include a sturdy, compact build, adorable floppy ears, and soulful brown or hazel eyes. Beagles typically weigh between 18-30 pounds and stand 13-16 inches tall, featuring a smooth, dense coat that comes in a variety of tri-color or bi-color patterns. In terms of temperament, they are known for being exceptionally friendly, curious, and outgoing, making them wonderful companions for families with children and other pets. However, their strong prey drive and inclination to follow interesting scents mean they require a securely fenced yard and consistent leash training. While adaptable, their need for exercise and tendency to vocalize (howl!) makes them less ideal for small apartment living unless daily walks and mental stimulation are guaranteed. Regarding health, Beagles can be prone to certain conditions like hip dysplasia, epilepsy, and intervertebral disc disease, making responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups important.
