Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Adoption Fee: 100. COURTESY POST – Apply through Tired Dog Rescue Located in Gulfport, MS Meet Scout, a handsome 3–4-year-old male Fox/Rat Terrier mix weighing in at 21.8 lbs. This sweet boy is crate trained, has had no accidents in his current home, and gets along well with both small and large dogs. He’s been sharing his space peacefully with a small terrier mix and a 10-year-old American Staffordshire. Scout is a gentle soul with no destructive habits or behavioral issues. While he hasn’t been tested with cats or children, his calm and friendly nature suggests he’d likely adjust well with proper introductions. He’s not obedience trained yet, but he’s smart, eager to please, and ready to learn. Scout is heartworm positive and will need treatment, and his neuter and vaccinations are already scheduled for August 6th. He’s currently eating a raw diet but is open to transitioning to high-quality kibble. This boy would thrive in a patient, loving home willing to continue his care and training. Transport is available up to 300 miles. If you’re ready to open your heart to Scout, apply through Tired Dog Rescue today!

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
