Description
Dog Breed: Great Pyrenees (medium coat). Meet Milo! He is the cutest little pumpkin ever! He currently weighs about 55 pounds, which is a healthy weight for his size right now, although he may grow just a little more depending on his exact age. The shelter initially guessed Milo’s age to be around 3, but based on his behavior and teeth, we are guessing he’s between 1 and 1.5 years old (birthday most likely between January and July of 2024). Sweet, gentle Milo was brought in as a stray to a local animal shelter in a suspected backyard breeder case. He became fearful and emotionally shut down in the shelter environment and was close to being put down. We had to rescue him! Once Milo got to his foster home, he became much happier and more relaxed. He does great with meeting new dogs and integrated into the pack very quickly when he arrived to foster care. He loves playing with his big doggy foster siblings. He would do well in any home but would do best where the home has other dogs that will play with him. He still has some chewing tendencies and loves Nyla bones just a little more than he likes chewing wood/furniture. He does not have any food aggression issues and waits patiently to be fed in his crate while his siblings are fed. He loves getting attention from his people but can be a little wary of strangers until he gets to know them better. Milo does well with kids but can be a little unsure about them initially, so a calm, patient introduction to children would be best. Milo is house trained and crate trained and prefers to sleep in his crate at night. He is leash trained and loves to go outside for walks and loves going to dog parks to say hello to everyone and run and play with as many dogs as he can. Milo has been known to bark or whine some to let you know he needs to go outside. He has been on a few car rides and is still a little nervous in the car, but is getting used to it. He has a moderate amount of energy and would do well with long daily walks and/or a buddy to play with throughout the day. A house with a yard would be the best fit for him; he would most likely struggle in an apartment setting. SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Adoption fees are $300 for dogs under 1 year old, $250 for dogs 1-7 years old, $200 for dogs over 7 years old. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. All SPIN dogs are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention. Please go to our website .SpinRescue and fill out an application for this great Great Pyrenees!

Breed overview
Great Pyrenees
A.K.A.: Pyrenean Mountain Dog, Patou, Chien de Montagne des Pyrénées, Pyrenean, Big White Dog, Bear Dog, Gentle Giant, Great Pyr, Pyr
Overview:
The Great Pyrenees is a majestic and ancient breed, originating in the Pyrenean mountains between France and Spain, where they served as formidable livestock guardians. Physically, they are large, powerful dogs, easily recognized by their thick, double coat, typically white (though sometimes marked with badger, grey, or tan), and a distinctive "double dewclaw" on their hind legs. Despite their imposing size, their temperament is generally calm, gentle, and remarkably patient, making them excellent companions. They possess a natural protectiveness, which translates to a watchful eye over their families and property. While loving and tolerant with children, their size and barking tendencies make them less suited for small apartment living; a home with a yard is ideal. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, patellar luxation, and certain eye conditions, emphasizing the importance of responsible breeding. Their independent nature also means they require consistent, positive reinforcement training.
