Description
Dog Breed: Shetland Sheepdog Sheltie (medium coat). EMMY has just arrived. She is a tiny 8.5# sable merle sheltie. She is very shut down, having just come from a BYB with little to no socialization except with her other littermates (no humans). She will have a wellness check in a few days, and from there, we will schedule her spay. She will not be ready for adoption for a while. A perfect adopter would be a quiet home with previous scared breeder dog experience. A friendly canine companion(s) to show her the ropes is most likely necessary. BEFORE INQUIRING ABOUT ADOPTING ONE OF OUR AVAILABLE PETS or TAKING THE TIME TO FILL OUT OUR QUITE DETAILED APPLICATION, PLEASE REVIEW THE INFORMATION PROVIDED ON OUR ADOPTION INFO LINK TO ENSURE THAT YOU WILL MEET THE NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS TO ADOPT ONE OF OUR PETS. THANK YOU. ************** SSR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REFUSE ANY APPLICATION. ************** SSR is a 501(c)(3) Organization and all donations are completely tax deductible.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
