Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed. To adopt please fill out an adoption Application Tanner is a 1yo male hound mix who was rescued as a stray in rural Mississippi. Friendly, well-socialized, happy temperament. A little bit timid in new situations but warms up quickly. Very active and playful outside, loves to chase the squirrels and katydids. Settles down quickly in the house, good house manners, doesn’t bother anything. Good with cats and other dogs and living comfortably with a cat and dog in his foster home. Recommended for children 6 years and older. Crate trained and housebroken. Obeys basic commands. Loves to be with his people. Good on a leash, rides great in the car. Healthy and fully vetted, current on shots, neutered, weighs about 40 pounds. AWESOME young hound will make a wonderful companion (and jogging partner! for an active family. Here’s a note from his foster mom: Tanner is our current foster guest, and he's a fun-loving guy! He gets along great with our resident dog and cat, loves to run through the yard, chasing a bird or squirrel just out of reach, loves toys (especially a kong loaded with treats), and will amuse himself carrying a ball or rope toy from room to room...a total goofball in the best way! When he gets tired, he curls up on the rug or couch to catch some zzzs. And he sleeps through the night until one of his peeps starts moving about early am. Tanner is house-trained, crate-trained, and is learning to walk on leash. This boy checks all the boxes; please consider Tanner, he wants to meet you! A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
