Description
Dog Breed: Yellow Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Adoption Fee: 300. *This animal is a part of our “Seniors for Seniors” program where we offer senior adopters an opportunity to adopt an eligible pet at a discounted fee.* Meet Grace – the sweetest golden girl you’ll ever meet! At 10 years old, Grace is the kind of dog that makes you believe in soulmates. She’s a gentle, loving senior Lab who may have a little arthritis (totally normal for her age), but it doesn’t slow her down one bit. She’s still happy to go for strolls and is easy on the leash — no pulling or drama here, just tail wags and soft eyes. Grace absolutely lives for human attention. She’ll lean in for pets, give sweet kisses, and melt into you like she’s known you forever. During her intake exam, the staff described her as “perfect” — calm, affectionate, and seeking love the entire time. She’s met a few dogs and has been nothing but appropriate and relaxed. She doesn’t mind sharing her space and would do just fine with another calm, respectful pup. This sweet girl is arriving in Minnesota on 8/7, and will be ready to start her next chapter shortly after. If you're looking for a laid-back, affectionate companion to share cozy evenings, quiet walks, and lots of love, Grace is your girl. Adopting a senior dog is like getting a vintage car – it comes with character, a few extra quirks, and might need a bit more maintenance. Expect occasional tune ups at the vet for oil changes (aka meds), and embrace the fact that those 'normal lumps and bumps' are just part of the well-earned charm package! Ruff Start will share all known health information with adopters and recommendations to keep your senior dog in top shape. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
