Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed. Available for Adoption! Meet Barney – Your Future Best Friend! Barney is a sweet, goofy, and affectionate pup who's guaranteed to bring joy to any home. He loves to play with his toys, has a gentle and easygoing nature, and enjoys being around people and other pets. Whether it’s snuggling on the couch or running around in the yard, Barney is always up for some fun! He’s currently learning basic commands like come, sit, down, shake (give paw), off, and leave it, and is picking them up quickly. Barney is crate trained and making great progress with potty training. He gets along wonderfully with kids, cats, and dogs of all sizes—he’s just a lovable companion all around. If you’re looking for a loyal, playful, and loving new family member, Barney might be the perfect match. He has had a vet visit, is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated - DHPP x 4, Rabies & Bordetella x 2. He’s had a 4 DX test (testing for Lyme disease and two types of tick-borne illnesses), flea/tick/heartworm prevention (Nexgard Plus), two dewormings, and 2 fecal test. Adopters will receive all original paperwork, a 14-day health guarantee, a collar, harness, leash, seatbelt lock, and a week's worth of food. We operate on a first-come, first-served basis and are by appointment only. We are located in Mesa near Gilbert/Brown & offer flexible hours for meet-and-greet appointments. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
