Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed. Say hi to Zuma! This good boy was adopted as a puppy and is back at Frankies due to a change in the lifestyle of his adopters (And NO fault of his!). Zulma is a big-hearted, smart young dog who knows when you need comfort. He will lay his head on your lap if you are sad and roll over for belly rubs to make you smile. Zuma loves tug-of-war, puzzle toys and frozen peanut butter treats. This boy thrives with a routine, a yard to play in and a forever person who loves an affectionate loyal companion. Zuma is crate trained (his crate is his safe space!) and food motivated, which makes him easy to train. He is a Shepard mix, so he is alert and protective of his people. He knows "sit" and "down" and he is learning stay and recall. Zuma. Is housebroken and signals to go out by barking. He gets along with medium to large dogs and confidant cats. He enjoys chasing squirels, so a fenced yard would suit him just fine. Does Zuma sound like your next best friend? Fill out an application and meet Zuma in person to see if it's a match!!

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
