Dog Breed: Shepherd / Terrier / Mixed (short coat). sweet girl ISO fresh start and love! BRINN NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Brinn Best Guess for Breed: Shepherd and terrier mix Best Guess for Age: 6 months as of August 2025 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 39 lbs as of 8/4/25; she is still growing. Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: South Carolina shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here! Brinn is Looking For: Her forever family! This pretty girl is at the tail end of puppyhood and and hasn't seen nearly enough of the world. She's looking forward to having her own humans to show her all of the exciting things the world has to offer. Trips to parks, playdates with friends, and new adventures are on her to-do list! She'd love to go to dog school too, so she can show how smart she is. Most of all, though, she wants to know she's safe and loved. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
