Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: $300.00. Hi there, I’m Twixie! I’m a 3-month-old mixed breed pup with a gentle soul and a heart full of curiosity. I currently weigh about 12 pounds, and my foster mom thinks I’ll grow to be around 20–30 pounds—perfect for couch snuggles and outdoor adventures. I can be a little shy at first, especially in new situations, but give me a little time (and a treat or two), and you’ll start to see my sweet personality shine. I’m very treat motivated—just saying! I absolutely love being outside—sunshine, grass, and dirt are my happy place. I’ve already mastered the doggy door like a pro, and walks are one of my favorite parts of the day. There’s just so much to see and sniff! I get along really well with other dogs and feel extra confident with a canine buddy by my side. I haven’t officially met a cat yet, but I’ve come close—and I didn’t seem to care much either way, so I’d likely do just fine with feline friends. I’m still warming up to kids—they make me a little nervous—but with patience and kindness, I’m learning they’re not so scary after all. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
