Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Meet our sweet little Birdie girl! She is a four-month-old tiny Terrier mix who is just as cute as can be. Timid and gentle, Birdie quickly comes out of her shy shell with a little calm and quiet. She absolutely loves her people—especially kids! She's currently in a home with four human siblings, and they are her favorite. Birdie is observant and chill, and her favorite place to be is snuggled up on your lap with a bone. You’ll know you’ve won her over when she rewards you with tons of sweet puppy kisses. She’s doing well with potty training and sleeps quietly in her crate through the night. In fact, we haven’t heard her bark yet! Birdie came from a home with many dogs, so she takes a little time to feel safe and comfortable around new furry friends. A calm, quiet, and patient dog would be the perfect match—someone with the confidence to show this little Bird that the world is fun and full of love. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
