Description
Dog Breed: Hound. KILO - 3 years old, 70 pounds, house trained, playful, proper introductions to new people and dogs Kilo is a young hound mix that was surrendered when his owners were moving and didn't bring him along. He's a very cute big boy that loves being petted and given attention. He knows his commands (sit, lay down, come, get down, stand (pat your chest.) Kilo has lived with dogs and cats but does need slow intros when meeting new dogs. He also needs slow intros outside of the home when meeting new people. Kilo enjoys being brushed and wearing clothes, too! This boy is a character. Kilo has become a regular in our shelter playgroup. He seems dog social/tolerant and gives very good corrections. He enjoys running and chasing others. He can do some gentle wrestling play as well. As mentioned above, proper introductions are always best and supervision is important. Kilo can be protective of his food and water bowls when around other dogs so he should be fed separately. Come by the shelter to meet him today! He is currently in our large dog adoption kennel.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
