Canelo is an 11-year-old neutered male Terrier Mix who was surrendered by his owner on July 14, 2025. Don’t let his age fool you as this calm, affectionate senior is in fantastic shape and still enjoys getting out and about. He walks beautifully on leash, loves lap time, and has the energy to keep up with the big dogs. While currently underweight, Canelo is otherwise in good health and would thrive with a little TLC and a secure yard to explore. -11-year-old neutered male Terrier Mix -Surrendered by owner on July 14, 2025 -Described as a “nice, calm gentleman” -Excellent leash manners and house-trained demeanor -In great shape for his age—good energy and mobility -Underweight but otherwise healthy -Loves cuddles and makes a perfect lap dog -Can keep up with larger dogs in activity and spirit -May need supervision in the yard (he’s got a bit of a wanderer in him!) A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
