Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed (short coat). Fern is a beautiful girl who is looking for a new home. Fern is currently with one of our sister rescues in Louisiana but hoping to come to NJ soon. We do offer a foster-to-adopt trial to approved adopters. Meet our spirited sweetheart, Fern! Fern is a bundle of energy and joy. She loves her playtime wither her favorite toys and is always up to play with her furry friends, Fern is also a huge fan of cuddles and will happily snuggle up for some lap time. Fern is still a puppy and needs some work on her manners, she is probably a little too jumpy for smaller kiddos. She has so much love to give a family that can match her enthusiasm. If you are looking for a playful, affectionate companion, Fern is ready to meet you! Fern is fixed, microchipped and she is up to date on rabies, DHPP and Bordetella vaccines. She tested negative for heartworm. Her adoption fee is $550. Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training prior to adoption. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
