Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Forever home wanted, meet Gemma. Gemma found herself along with her 9 puppies (and who we believe to be daddy; Maverick) turned in as strays to the Hesperia shelter on 7/15. We don't know what happened to Gemma prior to arriving at the shelter but it is a miracle she survived and was able to care for her 9 babies. Gemma’s story is one of resilience, fight and love. Gemma's body condition was tterrible, so emaciated and painfully thin. She also ended up with a very bad upper respiratory infection that was passed on to the babies. All tests run on her to this point are inconclusive, no parasites and bloodwork is unremarkable. She's was pretty disinterested in food which we assume is due to the antibiotics she's on and how she just feels horrible overall. Through all of this, Gemma is the sweetest dog on the earth. She has a wiggly tail and loves attention. She is very attached to her foster after just two weeks. She is in a home with several other dogs and gets along with every one of them. After a month of being in a foster home, Gemma is showing a playful and happy side. She’s started to eat and put on much needed weight. She loves toys and balls and loves walks. She is totally house trained and rides great in the car. Gemma will make a wonderful addition to any home and family.
